In a medical context, "MSK" stands for musculoskeletal. This term refers to the system of the body that includes muscles, bones, cartilage, tendons, and ligaments. The musculoskeletal system is responsible for providing structure, support, and movement to the body. When medical professionals refer to MSK issues, they are typically discussing conditions or diseases that affect this system.
MSK pain: Pain originating from muscles, bones, or joints, such as in cases of arthritis, back pain, or muscle strains.
MSK disorders: Conditions like osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, or tendonitis that impact the musculoskeletal system.
MSK imaging: Diagnostic imaging techniques like X-rays, MRIs, or CT scans used to visualize and assess musculoskeletal injuries or conditions.
Understanding and diagnosing MSK issues is crucial for effective treatment and management of various musculoskeletal problems.
As a therapist specialising in MSK health, I focus on diagnosing and treating conditions related to the muscles, bones, and joints using a holistic approach. Throughout the assessment process, I conduct thorough evaluations, including physical examinations and medical/case histories, to identify musculoskeletal issues. Utilising a variety of hands-on techniques to assess body mechanics and identify areas of dysfunction. During treatment I use manual therapies, such as osteopathic manipulation, to improve mobility, reduce pain, and enhance overall function and tissue healing. I will also design personalised rehabilitation plans that may include mobility exercises, strength training, and lifestyle advice.
My holistic process considers the whole body and its systems, recognising how various factors (physical, emotional, and environmental) can impact musculoskeletal health. Promoting overall wellness and preventive care can help patients maintain long-term health. Alongside this I try to educate patients about their conditions, treatment options, and the importance of self-care and lifestyle changes. Empowering patients to take an active role in their recovery and well-being.
